Weeknote No. 26-16
As I write this, I realize that I haven’t posted a weeknote in almost a month. I used to be so disciplined about it, dutifully posting something every week. Alas, 2026 has been different.
🎒 Having spent a week or so in Puerto Rico and nine weeks in Arizona, I’ve been away more than I’ve been home. I suppose that was enough of a disruption to my routine to throw me off. Now I’m back home and no scheduled to go anywhere until July, when I’ll be returning to Arizona.
🔔 For the third year in a row, I did the Ohio State 4-Miler, a popular race that finishes on the 50-yard line in Ohio Stadium. Owing to a combination of old age, osteoarthritis, and nagging injury, I wasn’t able to run it this year. But I finished the 4 miles in about an hour and I don’t feel too bad about that. Plus, I got a cool medal celebrating the Ohio State Victory Bell.
⏱️ If you’re reading this, you may recall that I’m due to retire soon. It won’t be all wine and cheese and recreation though; my honeydew list is already substantial. I’ve quietly informed my boss and we’ve begun to think about how we’ll transition, although I won’t be “officially” giving my notice for another couple of months.
♣️♦️♥️♠️ On Saturday we enjoyed catching up with some good friends who we haven’t seen in a few months. We ate pizza, drank wine, and played Clear the Deck.
🧩 Another recurring event that we’ve been missing the last couple of months is Puzzled Pint, a social puzzle solving event held at a different local bar on the second Tuesday of every month. It’s a worldwide event, hosted by a local volunteer. This month’s puzzles were particularly difficult, but that may just be because my usual puzzle buddies weren’t able to attend.
📋 I finished watching season 3 of Shrinking. In fact, I watched the whole season twice, it was that good. There is going to be a season 4, and according to reports it’ll be a whole new story that takes place some years after the end of season 3. That’s welcome news because I like stories with a beginning, middle, and end. I can’t think of another show (apart from anthologies) that start over from scratch like that. I’m looking forward to seeing what Bill Lawrence and the rest of the crew have in store.
Okay, that’s all for today. I hope you have a wonderful week!
